Understanding Value VII

Understanding Value VII is the 7th annual instalment of the graduate conference at the University of Sheffield, which aims at exploring philosophical themes related to the nature and application of value. Value pertains to most areas in philosophy, and the conference thus has a broad theme and accepts submissions from every area in philosophy including, but not limited to, aesthetics, ethics, political philosophy, metaphilosophy, epistemology, and philosophy of science. We also encourage submissions from other disciplines, such as sociology and anthropology. There will be four invited keynote speakers – Dr. Megan Blomfeld (University of Sheffield), Professor Lisa Heldke (Gustavus Aldophus College), Professor Havi Carel (University of Bristol), and Dr. Maria Alvarez (King’s College London). In addition, there will be about 40 graduate speakers in Open Sessions. Submissions for the Open Sessions are open to all postgraduate students and to those who have recently completed their PhDs (within 2 years of the conference). In the past, both keynote speakers and graduate speakers have given excellent talks which have encouraged stimulating
philosophical discussion.
