Prospective Students


The White Rose College of the Arts & Humanities will be offering at least 45 PhD studentships starting in October 2023 at Leeds, Sheffield and York, through the Arts and Humanities Research Council (AHRC) Doctoral Training Partnerships (DTP2) scheme.

TWO types of studentship will be offered: Open Competition and Collaborative Doctoral Award (CDA). The table below summarises the differences.

Closing deadlines

  • Open Competition has now closed. The next application round for entry in October 2024 will open later this year.
  • CDA Competition is now open. The application deadline for Expressions of Interest is 17:00 GMT on Wednesday 8th March 2023.

  • Student-led projects
  • Apply for a place of study FIRST
  • Usually an interview with your chosen department
  • Apply to WRoCAH for funding SECOND
  • Defined projects with external collaborating partner organisation
  • Expressions of interest FIRST
  • Usually an interview with the project team
  • Successful student nominated to WRoCAH
  • Successful student confirmed by WRoCAH

2023 WRoCAH AHRC Open Competition Studentships

Applications for the 2023 WRoCAH Open Competition Studentships closed on Wednesday 25th January 2023.

WRoCAH have approximately 45 AHRC Open Competition Studentships to award across the three White Rose institutions (Leeds, Sheffield and York) for October 2023 entry.

The 2023 WRoCAH Collaborative Doctoral Awards Competition is now open for Expressions of Interest.
