Prospective Students


The White Rose College of the Arts & Humanities will be offering at least 45 PhD studentships starting in October 2022 at Leeds, Sheffield and York, through the Arts and Humanities Research Council (AHRC) Doctoral Training Partnerships (DTP2) scheme.

TWO types of studentship will be offered: Open Competition and Collaborative Doctoral Award (CDA). The table below summarises the differences.

Closing deadlines

  • Open Competition is now closed.
  • CDA Competition is now open. Deadline for Expressions of Interest is 5pm GMT on Wednesday 9th March 2022.

WRoCAH AHRC Collaborative Doctoral Awards (CDAs)

  • Student-led projects
  • Apply for a place of study FIRST
  • Usually an interview with your chosen department
  • Apply to WRoCAH for funding SECOND
  • Defined projects with external collaborating partner organisation
  • Expressions of interest FIRST
  • Usually an interview with the project team
  • Successful student nominated to WRoCAH
  • Successful student confirmed by WRoCAH

2022 WRoCAH AHRC Open Competition Studentships

Applications are now open for the 2022 WRoCAH Open Competition Studentships. WRoCAH will have approximately 45 AHRC Open Competition Studentships to award across the three White Rose institutions (Leeds, Sheffield and York) for 2022 entry.

2022 WRoCAH Collaborative Doctoral Awards (CDAs)

The 2022 WRoCAH Collaborative Doctoral Awards Competition is now open for Expressions of Interest.

8 CDA projects are available this year across the three White Rose institutions (Leeds, Sheffield and York). Each project also benefits from the involvement of an exciting external partner.
