SUMMARY:Peer Coaching taster session
DESCRIPTION:This event will take place in York\nWould you benefit from bein
g part of a supportive peer group of WRoCAH doctoral researchers for a who
le academic year and beyond?\nPeer coaching groups that meet regularly are
known as ‘action learning sets’. Groups are intended to offer mutual
support and coaching. For each meeting group members are invited bring the
ir current challenges and the group works with them to coach them towards
potential solutions.\n\nTaking part in this workshop will give you the cha
nce to work with a group of peers to develop your coaching skills to impro
ve collaborative working\, communication and professional relationships. T
he skills of coaching can be applied to help you get the best out of yours
elf and the best out of others. This can be in your research\, in your tea
ching or in working with or supervising of others.\n\nLearning how to coac
h and be coached is about applying a collaborative leadership style and en
couraging collective responsibility\, rather than leading in a traditional
sense. You can help others to come up with their own solutions using the
problem-solving muscle of teams to solve problems. This style provokes\, c
oaches and guides meaningful\, investigative learning and problem-solving
processes.\n\nCoaching has a direct link back to resilience because we lea
rn as much from coaching as we do from being coached. You get the chance t
o encourage and support others through coaching techniques as well as bene
fiting from their encouragement and support.\nFeedback from previous parti
cipants...\n\n"The exercise gave us each an equal opportunity to share tho
ughts\, and choosing between ourselves which problem to focus on was a dem
ocratic process\, which meant that everyone was able to choose their role
and felt comfortable."\n\n"I would strongly encourage other students\, reg
ardless of a feeling of 'need'\, to consider the coaching sessions offered
  - having firm encouragement to think about things you pretend you don't k
now might free you to look at work and life in a new light.”\n\n"a real
feeling of respect for each other's voices in the room\, and the feeling o
 f being in a safe and non-\njudgemental space."\nAfter this taster event y
ou will be given the opportunity to join a group who agree how often they
want to meet. This is a commitment - you will get to receive but also be e
xpected to give coaching to others - but you will be able to determine dat
 es and how often the group meets.\nLink to register\n&nbsp\;
