SUMMARY:Peer Coaching taster session (collaborative with CHASE DTP)
DESCRIPTION:NB: This event will take place in London (venue TBC) and is bei
ng run collaboratively by WRoCAH and CHASE DTPs.\nWould you benefit from b
eing part of a supportive peer group of WRoCAH doctoral researchers for a
whole academic year and beyond?\nPeer coaching groups that meet regularly
are known as ‘action learning sets’. Groups are intended to offer mutu
al support and coaching. For each meeting group members are invited bring
their current challenges and the group works with them to coach them towar
ds potential solutions.\n\nTaking part in this workshop will give you the
chance to work with a group of peers to develop your coaching skills to im
prove collaborative working\, communication and professional relationships
. The skills of coaching can be applied to help you get the best out of yo
urself and the best out of others. This can be in your research\, in your
teaching or in working with or supervising of others.\n\nLearning how to c
oach and be coached is about applying a collaborative leadership style and
encouraging collective responsibility\, rather than leading in a traditio
nal sense. You can help others to come up with their own solutions using t
he problem-solving muscle of teams to solve problems. This style provokes\
, coaches and guides meaningful\, investigative learning and problem-solvi
ng processes.\n\nCoaching has a direct link back to resilience because we
learn as much from coaching as we do from being coached. You get the chanc
e to encourage and support others through coaching techniques as well as b
enefiting from their encouragement and support.\nFeedback from previous pa
rticipants...\n\n"The exercise gave us each an equal opportunity to share
thoughts\, and choosing between ourselves which problem to focus on was a
democratic process\, which meant that everyone was able to choose their ro
le and felt comfortable."\n\n"I would strongly encourage other students\,
regardless of a feeling of 'need'\, to consider the coaching sessions offe
red - having firm encouragement to think about things you pretend you don'
t know might free you to look at work and life in a new light.”\n\n"a re
al feeling of respect for each other's voices in the room\, and the feelin
g of being in a safe and non-\njudgemental space."\nAfter this taster even
t you will be given the opportunity to join a group who agree how often th
ey want to meet. This is a commitment - you will get to receive but also b
e expected to give coaching to others - but you will be able to determine
dates and how often the group meets.\n\nWRoCAH students (regardless of stu
dentship type) can claim up to a maximum of £25 in travel costs to attend
this event. Please claim directly from the WRoCAH office after the event
 - you DO NOT need to complete a Small Award application.\nLink to register
