SUMMARY:NVivo - 2 day training workshop
DESCRIPTION:[caption id="attachment_3288" align="alignright" width="246"] P
laces are limited to 14 on this course\, so book early to avoid [/caption
]\n\nSorry\, course now full\nLearn how to use NVivo as the experts do.\nT
his means going beyond learning how to simply operate the software\, to ha
rnessing it in the service of your analytic strategies.\n\nThe Five-Level
QDA method ensures that your use of NVivo is driven by the objectives of
your research project and enables you to develop the expertise you need t
o produce high quality analysis\, whatever your methodology.\n\nThis 2 day
workshop builds on the framework outlined by the Five-Level QDA method by
providing:\n\n an overview of the sorts of analytic activities that NViv
o can be used for\n a comprehensive understanding of NVivo’s components
and the ways they can be used to fulfil your analytic tasks\n a detailed
understanding of the principles of the Five-Level QDA method\n guided
practice in analytic planning in your own research project\n guided pract
ice in the “translation” of analytic tasks into NVivo tools in your ow
 n research project\, using Five-Level QDA worksheets\n a range of case ex
amples that illustrate different ways NVivo can be harnessed\n an opportu
nity to discuss your project with other participants and the workshop tuto
rs\n access to our companion website that hosts dozens of instructional v
ideos to consolidate your use of the Five-Level QDA method with NVivo\n\nW
ho should attend\nAnyone using\, or intending to use\, NVivo for a researc
h project\, and any prospective instructors of the Five-Level QDA method f
or teaching NVivo.\n\nThe focus is on learning to use NVivo in the context
of your own research project. You should therefore have a qualitative or
mixed methods research project in progress\, or be just beginning a projec
t with data available. Data may include literature files\, primary qualita
tive data (e.g. interview or focus-group transcripts\, survey data with op
 en-ended responses\, observational field notes\, images\, video files etc.
) and/or background or secondary qualitative data (e.g. documents and repo
rts\, archival material etc.)\n\nHaving a project in progress includes fam
iliarity with your qualitative methodology\, your research design\, and yo
ur planned analytic strategies\, in other words – what you plan to do w
ith your data. To note\, having only data but no planned analytic strategi
es will make it difficult to fully benefit from this workshop and other tr
aining we provide may be more useful for you. If you are in doubt\, please
get in touch with us to discuss your needs more specifically.\n\nThe wo
rkshop is based on the principles of the Five-Level QDAmethod and reading
Part 1 of our book Qualitative Analysis using NVivo: The Five-Level QDA
method before the workshop will ensure you get the most from your two day
 s. All participants are will receive a 20% discount on the price of the b
ook when registering for the workshop.\n\nPlease note\, this is a 'bring y
our own laptop' workshop. You can work with either NVivo 11 for Windows (P
ro or Plus edition) or NVivo 11 for Mac - ensuring the latest updates are
installed. If you do not have a license\, you can download the free\, 14 d
ay trial version for use during the workshop\, from the NVivo website.\n\
nIf you have not already been using NVivo\, free webinars in basic operati
ng skills are available on the NVivo website. Familiarity with the softwa
re will give you a flying start in the workshop.\nCourse Tutors\nDr Christ
ina Silver\nChristina has been using and teaching CAQDAS packages since 19
 97. She has conducted many different research projects\, big and small\, w
ith and without the use of qualitative software – including her own stud
ies and many other academic and applied research projects.\n\nChristina ha
s designed and carried out analysis for many independent organisations\, t
eaching under- and post-graduate qualitative methods courses in UK and Eur
opean universities and currently contributes to doctoral programmes at sev
eral institutions. Christina is the Director of the UK arm of QDAS (Qualit
ative Data Analysis Services Ltd.) and is the manager of the CAQDAS Netwo
rking Project.\n\nChristina is co-author of Using Software in Qualitative
Research: A Step-by-Step Guide with Ann Lewins and The Five-Level QDA®
method with Nicholas Woolf\nDr Nicholas Woolf\nNick has been training qu
alitative researchers and teaching CAQDAS workshops in the US and Canada s
ince 1998. He specializes in working with researchers from the beginning o
f projects to turn their research questions into analytic plans that can b
e implemented on a CAQDAS package. Nick generally provides project-based C
AQDAS training to introduce the CAQDAS skills needed in each phase of a pr
oject. The focus is on efficiently completing the project\, in terms of bo
th time and cost. His specialism is ATLAS.ti.\n\nNick developed the princi
ples of Five-Level QDA to help researchers more quickly gain the experti
se of long-term users of CAQDAS. He works with Christina Silver in further
developing and offering the method as a CAQDAS pedagogy.\nDr Sarah Bulloc
h\nSarah has worked on research projects with qualitative materials\, supp
orted by software\, including the analysis of video during post-doctorate
research. As co-investigator on an Economic and Social Research Council re
search grant at the University of Southampton\, UK\, Sarah explored both q
ualitative writings from the Mass Observation Archive and British Househol
d Panel Survey data\, to undertake longitudinal mixed methods analysis.\n\
nSarah has knowledge and experience of research in different contexts\, ha
ving worked in the academic\, voluntary\, government and private sectors.
She undertook two postdoctoral research fellowships\, worked on contracts
with government and small businesses\, and in policy and practice-based re
search as Research Manager for the disability charity Scope. She currently
teaches introductory and advanced workshops in a range of CAQDAS packages
\, as well as teaching quantitative analysis using SPSS. Sarah teaches in
both English and German.\n\nSarah has published in a range of fields wit
 h a range of methodologies.
