Practical Storytelling Workshop
All doctoral researchers are encouraged to consider innovative ways to make research engaging to other research in the field and beyond, as well as outside academia.

This year we are continuing to offer two Storytelling workshops with Master Storyteller, Tim RalphsTim is described as a captivating speaker and has received awards for his work including Young Storyteller of the Year and the British Award for Storytelling Excellence. They received excellent feedback, so we are pleased to offer them again this year. If you are thinking about any public engagement activities at some time, this is an excellent way to build up your skills.

These two sessions are available to ALL doctoral researchers at the Universities of Leeds, Sheffield and York, regardless of funding status.
Two sessions are offered this year:

7 June 2017 – Introduction to Storytelling

13:00 – 16:00 – University of York
The Treehouse, Humanities Research Centre, Berrick Saul Building, York
This is a ‘taster’ event, where Tim will talk about his approach to storytelling and challenge researchers to think about ways they might be able to use compelling storytelling to talk about research.

26 July 2017 – Practical Storytelling Workshop

10:00 – 16:00 – University of Leeds
Edward Boyle Library Level 13 Meeting Room 1
This is a more in-depth workshop where researchers will have the opportunity to turn an aspect of their research into an engaging story, getting feedback from Tim and other participants on the day and (if they would like to) having another go. Ideally researchers need to have attended the first session so that they have some background knowledge to bring along to this more practical workshop.
Booking will be available from Spring 2018.
